I'll Give You A Rose
By: Hazel Jenkins
I'll give you the roses,
while now you can see.
For after you leave me,
what good will they be?
We need the roses,
while in troubled storm
While teardrops are falling
and we're tired and worn.
Yes, I love the roses,
but I can't compare
So I'll give them now,
you'll know that I care.
The roses I speak of
don't grow outside
They come from a person
who helps turn the tide.
Now we think of roses
as flowers and such
A real rose is a smile,
a handshake or touch.
Roses cost money,
we see them each day
They bloom for a moment,
then they fade away.
But that big ol' smile,
handshake or touch
Will make the heart happy
and help it so much.
Now roses don't talk,
some think that they do
But what's on your heart
should come from you
The thoughts and the real things,
that's what we should say
Just tell them we love them
and help make their day.
Roses have beauty,
we should use both kind
The ones that are growing
and what's on our mind.
Yes, give me the roses
while life's path I trod
For after this life is over,
then I'll be with God
I won't need the roses,
I can see them no more
I'll have the real roses
on God's happy shore.
